Microkhan by Brendan I. Koerner

The White Rose City Awaits

Not much Microkhan’ing today, alas, as we’re heading out of town once again—our last trip for the foreseeable future. The destination this time? York, Pennsylvania, for a costume ball honoring the nuptials of a Dirty Doll. We know nothing about York, save for the fact that it’s got a thorny racial history. We’d be much obliged if someone could recommend a notable watering hole or downtown sight worth seeing, as we’ll have some time to kill on Saturday. Is the self-guided Utz factory tour worth checking out? We do like their salt-and-vinegar chips.

York’s not that great, really-fairly gritty and run down. More of interest in Lancaster, which is just down the road.

@FS: Alas, didn’t have any time to roam far afield–wedding duties for the missus throughout the weekend, plus we had the kid in tow. York was, indeed, pretty rundown, though in an intriguing way–lots of historical nooks and crannies amidst the post-industrial clutter. Good bar near the train tracks, too, if you’re so inclined.

Favorite York factoid I learned on the trip: it was the biggest northern city to surrender to the Confederacy. Place where the give-up took place is now opposite a Subway.
