Apologies, really thought I’d have time to write today. But it’s nearly 8 a.m. here in northern Arizona and I’m several notches less than prepared for a mammoth day of reporting. Thanks, as always, for your forebearance—all will be back to normal by Friday, if not earlier.

    Good luck in Arizona.

    …got my hands on a used copy of Kinski Uncut. It took me a minute to figure out there aren’t any chapters, just Kinski, at his best, talking about himself, talking major smack. I need to keep a tally of how many times he says “twat” and “cunt.” The man was truly insane, in the best way, of course. I honestly have never seen or read an interview with him where he played by the rules. LOVE IT!

    ADW: So glad you’re digging the Kinski autobiography. Yes, no question that he was off his rocker, though he managed to funnel that insanity into some top-notch acting. The trick to that book, though, is figuring out what parts he made up. Herzog claims the book is roughly 99.9 percent made up. I find that hard to believe, but there are a lot of its that ring false. Like when Kinski claims that he, not Herzog, was the genius who set up every shot in “Fitzcarraldo.” Um, not buying it, Herr Kinski.

    @BK:

    I went knowing that he made up a lot, but that doesn’t dampen my joy one bit. Fantasy, truth – it’s Kinski. I haven’t reached the Herzog parts, but I look forward, considering their relationship. His Herzog quotes are classic. Herzog had to be a saint to take Kinski’s shit.
