Borg Me Up

prostheticarm1950sWhile hunting about for photos of WWII-era Army prison camps, I stumbled upon the vintage snapshot at right, taken from the archives of the National Museum of Health and Medicine. It’s dated circa 1950, which surprised me a bit—I didn’t realize that prosthetic arms were that Robotech-y over a half-century ago. Turns out, however, that multi-jointed prosthetics date back to early 16th-century Germany; check out the Iron Hand of Götz von Berlichingen.
